Troja Bridge
The Troja Bridge is located in Prague’s Troja district, connecting Partyzánska Street in Holešovice with Povltavska and Trojska streets.
The bridge serves tram and car traffic and has walkways for pedestrians and cycle paths on both sides. Construction of the bridge began in 2010 and it was completed in 2014, when it was opened for traffic. It replaced the provisional Troja bridges and in the future will connect with the Blanka Tunnel and the Prague ring road.
Although at one point there was talk of naming the bridge after President Václav Havel, the council of the Capital City of Prague eventually opted to name it the Troja Bridge.
In terms of architecture, it is a network arch bridge with lower deck. It is 262 metres long and the main arch spans 200.4 metres. The abutments and piers of the bridge are only on bored piles in the bedrock along the banks. None of them interferes with the breadth of the river.
The bridge took longer to build and cost more than originally planned. The original commission for a simple bridge changed after the municipality announced a tender, which was won by a much more complicated and expensive bridge. The original budget of CZK 400 million was thus increased by CZK 720 million.
